Located in the picturesque town of Oslob in the Philippines, this unique experience offers a memorable outing for both kids and adults alike.
Overview of the Oslob Macaque Encounter
Oslob, a coastal town in Cebu province, is famous for its beaches and marine life. However, the Oslob Macaque Encounter offers a unique experience. Here, visitors can observe and interact with wild long-tailed macaques, locally known as “Mondays,” in their natural habitat.
The Oslob Macaque Sanctuary, managed by the Hagdan Oslob Monkey Protectors and Farmers Association (HOMPFA), is a haven for Philippine long-tailed macaques, known for their friendly nature. The sanctuary offers guided tours where visitors can observe the macaques up close without barriers. Monkeys are easily visible from the national road, making it convenient for tourists. This initiative also aids local farmers by allowing tourists to feed the monkeys, preventing crop damage. While physical interaction is discouraged, tourists can feed the monkeys a kilo of bananas for a small fee.
These playful and intelligent primates inhabit the lush forests surrounding Oslob, providing visitors with a unique and authentic experience. Unlike traditional zoos or wildlife parks, the Oslob Macaque Encounter allows visitors to observe the macaques behaving naturally in their native environment.
